Details: This search is the result of lectures of the same name that we have been holding at the Universities of Stuttgart and Karlsruhe for a long time. These lectures are electives for students in communications engineering and related fields in advanced semesters. However, it was not the intention of the editor to include a pure lecture text in his search series "communications engineering". Rather, the aim was a comprehensive presentation in the form of a monograph. We have tried to meet this request without wanting to restrict the usability of this text in lectures. Message measurement technology deals with the measurement methods and procedures that serve for the direct measurement of transmission quantities. It is therefore largely geared towards the application in certain message systems, which distinguishes it from classic measurement technology. However, the variety of modern communication systems can lead to fragmentation, which makes systematic treatment very difficult compared to classical measurement technology. This can be seen, among other things, from the fact that there are many individual publications, but hardly any summarizing representations. This fact contributed to the origin of the search. The entire material is presented in seven chapters, each of which is devoted to a specific measuring task. Only the last chapter deviates from this scheme; It summarizes all measurement tasks that are typical for digital systems. So here it was not the measurement problem, but the measurement object that was decisive.
